The People’s National Convention (PNC) has elected Dr. Edward Mahama as the party’s Presidential Candidate for the 2016 general elections.
At its delegates congress held over the weekend in the Upper West Regional capital Wa, Dr. Mahama garnered 492 votes to defeat Mr Hassan Ayariga, the party’s flagbearer in the 2012 elections who polled 426 votes.
The chairmanship position was won by Mr Bernard Monah with 701 votes whilst his opponent, Mr David Apasara and Mr Abubakari Sadiq got 152 and 50 votes respectively.
Mr Henry Haruna was elected as the first Vice Chairman with 310 votes. Hajia Alima Musah won the second Vice Chairperson position with 272 votes whilst the third Vice Chair went to Mr Michael Wonigo.
PNC policy analyst, Mr Atik Mohammed polled 518 votes to become the party’s new General Secretary, beating Mr Emmanuel Wilson who got 398 votes.
The National Organiser position was won by Desmond Ntow, beating Abu Ramadan with 576 votes as against 383 votes.
Mr Abdulai Isahaku was also elected as the new Youth Organiser with 339 votes whilst Janet Adana Nabla won the Women’s Organiser position, with 514 votes with Mr Akane Adams winning the Treasurer position with 540 votes.
In his victory speech, Dr Edward Mahama thanked the delegates for electing him as the flagbearer to lead the party in the 2016 elections.
He promised to use his vast experience to forge unity among the rank and file of the party and also work closely with the newly-elected executives to go into the 2016 elections as a formidable force towards harnessing the presidency.
