The Black Stars team B today defeated their Nigerian counterparts 4:1 to emerge as winners of the 2017 WAFU competition.
Playing in front of some charged fans at the Cape Coast Stadium, the Black Stars put up a spirited performance to subdue the Super Eagles who looked a pale shadow of themselves.
Having lost against the same side in the group stage, there was a lot of pressure on the team to beat them this time around and it was not surprising that coach Maxwell Konadu fielded a very formidable first eleven.
Joseph Addo, Amos Frimpong, Vincent Atingah, Samuel Sarfo, Thomas Abbey, Gideon Waja, Isaac Twum, Winful Cobbinah, Emmanuel Lomotey, Stephen Sarfo and Kwame Kizito.
A brace from Berekum Chelsea striker Stephen Sarfo, and then two after the break from Hearts of Oak duo, Winful Cobbina and Vincent Atingah was enough to nail the Super Eagles who could only manage a goal courtesy Rabiu Ali’s wonderful free kick.
The win means Ghana has been able to successfully defend the trophy. .
Coach Maxwell Konadu in a post match press conference thanked the fans for the support and revealed that he had always had hope in his team and thankfully he has been vindicated.
”We know hat we can do. We promised our numerous fans this game would be different from the first one.”
