Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar have been confirmed as the top three finalists for the 2015 FIFA Ballon d’Or.

The three contenders were chosen from a 23-man list that also included well fancied Luiz Suarez and four-time African Footballer of The Year, Yaya Toure, who is the only player from the continent to have made this year’s 23-man shortlist.

Real Madrid’s Ronaldo and Barcelona’s Messi have made the shortlist for eight consecutive years and the two share seven honours between them, with Ronaldo winning in the past two years, ending Messi’s four-year hold on an award which is regarded as the top individual honour in world football.

The winners of this year’s FIFA World Footballer Of The Year award, will be announced at a gala in Zurich on 11 January.
