Lieutenant Colonel (rtd) Larry Gbevlo-Lartey has been appointed as the Special Representative in charge of Counter Terrorism Cooperation and, concurrently, as the Director of the Algiers based African Centre for the Study and Research on Terrorism (ACSRT) of the African Union.
His appointment was made by the Chairperson of the African Union, H.E. Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma in a statement released on Friday. The statement acknowledged his rich experience as far as combating terrorism and intelligence gathering are concerned.
” Mr. Gbevlo- Lartey brings extensive professoinal experience in the military and intelligence field, and has served National Security Coordinator for the Republic of Ghana”.
The former controversial National Security Adviser per the rules of his appointment is expected to coordinate the AU’s efforts in the prevention of terrorism.
“As Special Representative of the Chairperson of the Commission, Mr. Gbevlo-Lartey will coordinate continental efforts aimed at ensuring the effective implementation of the relevant AU instruments in the prevention and combating of terrorism, including mobilization of the international community in support of Africa’s efforts in this regard”.
