Two people have been confirmed dead while several others sustained gunshot wounds in Nkonya in the Volta region following an attack by a suspected rival community.
According to reports, the people were going about their normal duties on Wednesday evening when some yet to be identified individuals opened fire on them.
Briefing the media, the Kpando Divisional Police Chief Superintendent, Prosper Ahwirigya said preliminary investigations reveal the suspects came from Alavanyo but they are yet to ascertain whether it has anything to do with the protracted land dispute between the two communities.
He added that the military has been deployed to the area to maintain peace and order and urged the people to remain calm as they try to unravel the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

There is a dawn to dusk curfew (11:00 pm to 5:00 am) on Alavanyo and Nkonya following an age long land dispute between the two communities that has claimed many lives and properties.
