The Ashanti Regional office of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) was in the early hours of Sunday gutted by fire in what appears to be a suspected arsonist attack. About six gallons containing traces of fuel were retrieved from the scene.
The Regional Chairman’s office was the worst affected as the windows and doors were all destroyed in flames before some neighbours were able to prevent the inferno from spreading to other parts of the facility.
According to the security man on duty Mohammed Abubakar, he suspects some individuals are responsible for the fire because the place went up in flames moments after he heard the sound of a moving vehicle.
The Regional Minister, Alexander Ackon who was at the scene of the disaster suspects the fire to be linked to the ongoing Limited Voter Registration exercise.
