There was drama at the Sunyani Magistrate Court “B” yesterday when one of the suspects arrested in connection with the recent Atebubu-Kwame Danso  robbery incident made a “U-turn” in open court that the other suspects had nothing to do with the robbery.

According to our reporter, the suspect Sahama Zacky a.k.a  Malam Zacky told the presiding judge that he mentioned the names of the other suspects under duress whilst in police custody and so pleaded with the court to discharge them.

But the trial judge after careful consideration refused the plea and subsequently remanded all the accused persons into prison custody for 10 days to reappear on Monday, June 27.

Some traders were  in the early hours of June 7 attacked by some suspected armed robbers on the Atebubu-Kwame Danso road .

The robbery led to the death of Constable Frank Klu who was on board the vehicle and engaged in gun exchanges with the robbers in an attempt to foil the attack.

After less than a week of the unfortunate incident, the Kwame Danso police acted on intelligence and arrested Sahama Zacky at his residence in Kwame Danso who upon interrogation mentioned the names of two police officers,  Lance Corporal Asiedu Mensah and Corporal Solomon Abu and two other individuals as his accomplices and they  were accordingly picked up.
