The Ga Traditional Council has announced a month-long ban on noise making starting May, 2 and has advised the general public to observe it as such.
The announcement was made by the council in a press conference by the Gbese Mantse and Adonten of the Ga State, Nii Ayi Bonte II. According to the Gbese Mantse, the month-long ban is scheduled to start from May 2, 2016 and will end on June 2, 2016.
The month-long ban which usually precedes the celebration of the annual Homowo festival is a period for fasting and praying in which they ask for good fortunes for the Ga-Dangme people and the whole country. There is also planting of corn and millet called ‘ngmaadumo’ during this period.
The Odadaw custom will be performed to signify the lifting of the ban on drumming and noise making at the end of the period.
