Newcastle’s interim coach Rafael “Rafa” Maudes Benitez is set to continue his reign as their manager even though he failed to rescue the London Club from relegation.
Reports however indicate that the two-time La Liga winner with Valencia and the 2005 UEFA Champions League winner with Liverpool is keen to give Newcastle a face lift after their disastrous 2015/16 English premiership campaign.
The Spanish trainer is expected to be handed complete control over transfers by the Toons’ controversial club owner Mike Ashley with rumours suggesting that Benitez has already begun compiling his list of targets for life in the championship.
Official confirmation of his appointment as a substantive manager if there are no set backs is expected in the coming days.
Reports have already emerged that Benitez is keen on making A.F.C Bournemouth midfielder Lee Tomlin his first summer signing.
Tomlin played a key role in helping Bournemouth survive in the Premiership this season.
