Hollywood great Charlie Sheen has disclosed in an interview on the Today Show on Tuesday morning that he is HIV positive.
Sheen openly discussed his diagnosis, saying he got to know of it around four years ago when he started getting “insane” headaches and sweating — and since then he’s had to pay millions of dollars to friends and sexual partners to keep it secret.
He told show host Matt Lauer, “I’m here to admit I’m in fact HIV positive” to put a stop to the blackmail and betrayal by people he trusted with the knowledge of his diagnosis.
The 50-year-old, who claims he does not know how he contracted the virus said, he will no longer pay anybody: “Not after today I’m not! I release myself from this prison today.”
Sheen rose to fame in the 1980s acting in a number of successful films, including ‘Platoon’ and ‘Wall Street’. He recently starred in the hit TV show ‘Two and a Half Men’, but eventually lost his role in the following his highly publicized public breakdown.
He has long struggled with substance abuse and has admitted to soliciting prostitutes in the past.
