Incumbent New Patriotic Party member of parliament for Sunyani east, Hon. Kwasi Ameyaw-Cheremeh, has been confirmed to represent the NPP in the constituency in the 2016 parliamentary elections.
This follows an emergency recount of the ballot papers as ordered by the Sunyani High Court 3 on Friday morning.
Hon. Ameyaw Cheremeh secured 389 votes as against 387 by Ambassador George Kumi who had gone to court to seek redress after the NPP’s headquarters refused to grant his request for a recount of the results of the June 13 parliamentary primaries.
His Excellency George Kumi earlier on had petitioned the party for a recount and forensic audit of the results to ascertain the whereabouts of a missing vote.
But as revealed by the recount, that particular missing vote belonged to the incumbent MP Kwasi Ameyaw-Cheremeh who was carried shoulder high by his numerous supporters who thronged the court premises to lend him their support.
Speaking to the media after the recount, the highly elated Hon. Ameyaw-Cheremeh said he went to church to thank God for his victory after the primaries since he believed that he was the true winner of the elections.
