President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kwesi Nyantakyi has named George Afriyie as his deputy for the next four years.
The decision was announced at the first meeting of the newly-formed Executive Committee, held on Thursday to discuss the direction of Ghana football for the coming years..
His appointment is in accordance with Article 30.3 of the First Amendment of the GFA Statutes passed by Congress on December 30, 2014 which states:”At the maiden meeting of the Executive Committee, the President shall appoint from the membership of the Executive, the Vice President of the GFA and three other members who shall together with the President form the five(5) members of the Emergency Committee.”
The 45-year-old takes over from Fred Crentsil who lost his position on the Committee during the recently held elections of the FA.
He brings on board vast experience in football administration having served in leadership roles with several clubs including Swedru All Blacks, Accra Great Olympics and Liberty Professionals.
Mr Afriyie is the current chairman of the Black Stars management committee and a member of the CAF Marketing and TV Rights Committee.
He has previously served as the management committee chairman for the Black Meteors and Black Satellites and has worked on the Premier League Board and the Division One League Board.
