A call has gone to the people of the Brong-Ahafo Region particularly the youth to cultivate the habit of donating  blood to support the blood banks of the various hospitals in the Region to avoid the shortage of blood.

A blood donation Organiser at the Brong-Ahafo regional hospital, Mr Mahama Amin Emmanuel made this call during a youth conference organised by the Bethel Evangelical Ministry in Sunyani under the theme ‘My Year of Greater Works in Christ’.

Mr Amin Emmanuel underscored the importance of blood as a life saving commodity and therefore stressed the need for the youth to periodically donate their blood to help stock the blood banks for the benefit of those who are in dire need of it.

According to him, a donor could donate three times a year without any negative health implications, adding that a donor regains lost blood in 24 hours after the donation but its full quality is regained in four months.

Mr Amin also appealed to corporate organisations, associations and churches to endeavour to organise blood donation exercises as part of their social responsibilities to offer the youth the opportunity to donate blood.

A blood donation exercise was organised as part of the conference. About 53 people were screened out of which 49 were qualified to donate blood. One person could not donate because she was below 17 years whilst three others were as a result of low blood pressure.
