Government To Pay Nursing Trainees Allowances

Nursing students in the various Nursing Training Colleges across the country have been given a financial boost as a Technical Committee set up by the president John Dramani Mahama has recommended the payment of abated allowance to all nursing trainees.

The move according to the Ministry of Health is to facilitate the possibility of migrating them onto the students Loan Scheme.

The abated allowance which amount to about GH¢150 a month is aimed at supporting 34,500 students who are currently pursuing various levels of health professional training across the country.

According to a statement signed by the Minister of Health, Mr. Alex Segbefia, the payment amount would serve as a bridging mechanism pending the amendment of the Students Loan Trust Act, to enable students in non-tertiary Health Training Institutions access loans to support their education.
