John Paintsil’s Assault Trial Adjourned

John Paintsil In Court

An Accra Circuit Court has adjourned the trial of former Black Stars defender, John Paintsil after prosecutors failed to produce his docket today.

John Paintsil is facing charges of stealing, offensive conduct and assault of a police officer after he allegedly slapped the East Legon District Police Commander, DSP Emmanuel Basintale during interrogation in a case of car theft reported against him by his wife, Richlove Paintsil.

Lawyer for the former Fulham defender, Kojoga Adawudu denies the charges of assault against his client, adding they would be happy to see prosecutors prove that in court.

The District Police Commander himself has been directed by his superior, the Greater Accra Regional Police Commander, ACP Timothy Bonga Yoosa, to step aside and hand over to the District Crime Officer, since he is a party in the case.

Though the officer handling the case was in court today, the prosecutor pleaded for adjournment to allow for proper preparation and consultations since there was a misunderstanding over the date for the commencement of the case.

The presiding judge then adjourned the case to Tuesday, June 14, 2016 after lawyer for John Paintsil agreed with the request of the prosecution.
