Two children have lost their lives at Juaboso, a cocoa growing area in the Western Region after feasting on strange insects which have invaded the town.
According to a report, the insects which looked like millipedes invaded the area creating discomfort to residents particularly school children who have abandoned school and also farmers are unable to go to their farms to work.
Member of parliament for Juaboso and also the deputy minister for lands and Natural resources, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh who confirmed the development to the media said the millipede- like creature which have some pungent smell produce a noxious substance which is a threat to human lives.
One area which has been mostly hit by the invasion is Bonsu Nkwanta, a settlement in the western part of the MP’s Constituency where the insects are reported to have entered into people’s bedrooms, toilets and kitchens.
According to him, it is difficult to get rid of the weird creatures since they continue to increase in numbers.
He said efforts are being made by the ministry of Agriculture, environment, National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and Cocoa Disease and Pest Control Unit to find lasting solution to the problem.
