Versatile Ghanaian midfielder Michael Essien has suffered another injury after recently completing his transfer from AC Milan to Panathinaikos.
The former Chelsea star is said to have received a knock during training and after subsequent tests and scans, it came to light that the injury was one that needed surgery.
The 32-yr-old has thus been left out of their champions league qualifier.
Essien whose career has being characterized by long term injuries is due to have his surgery in Germany in a bid to return to full fitness and make his debut for his new club in Greece.
When he is expected to return to training is not yet known but sources say it is not going to be one of his usual long term stay-offs.
