The National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) has served notice that it will resist attempts by the government and the Controller and Accountants General’s Department (CAGD) to forcibly pay their salaries through e-zwich cards.
In an interview with the media, the National President of NAGRAT Mr. Christian Addae-Poku said there has not been any consultation in relation to the use of the e-zwich cards and so the the Controller and Accountant General’s Department (CAGD) cannot just out of the blue start implementing it.
“We have not even agreed on it in principle so controller cannot just go ahead and do that. It is my money, I have worked for it…I am supposed to be paid through bank, so if somebody is promoting his business and government wants to use teachers and public sector workers that would be unfortunate.”
The Controller and Accountants General’s Department (CAGD) has advised all public sector workers to register for e-zwich cards by the end of May or risk forfeiture of their salaries.
