The NPP headquarters at Asylum down was a scene of violence and chaos on Wednesday when the party’s internal security, the Invincible Forces went berserk and chased away supporters of Nii Noi Nortey, a parliamentary aspirant in the Klottey Korley Constituency.
The supporters besieged the party office to protest against any attempt by the National Executive Committee (NEC) to call for the re-run of the Klottey Korley parliamentary primary.
The machete wielding Invincible Forces went haywire and and drove away the supporters from the premises including journalists who were at the headquarters to do their work, leading to the smashing of the wind screen of a vehicle belonging to a private individual.
The incident occurred at a time when the NEC was locked up in a crunch meeting to deliberate on a possible re-run of Korley Klottey Constituency elections and the upcoming delegates conference slated for Sunyani on Saturday.
The Greater Accra Regional Police Commander, COP George Dampare led a team of armed police personnel who intervened and brought the situation under control by taking over security at the headquarters.
The police were able to get pictures and video footages of the confrontation and have made them available to the NEC to identify the perpetrators and produce them to the police for further interrogations.
The result of the parliamentary primary in the Klottey Korley constituency was challenged in court by two aspirants, Mr Philip Addison and Adjei Tawiah and the party has decided to settle the case out of court.
There has been a hint of a possible re-run of the election which angered the supporters of the elected parliamentary candidate, Nii Noi Nortey, who stormed the party headquarters to vent out their anger over the development.
