President John Dramani Mahama has promised to donate a house to the Taxi Driver who on Sunday foiled a robbery operation at Cantonment as his reward for the bravery and courage he demonstrated at the peril of his life.
This was disclosed by the Vice President, Mr Kwesi Amissah Arthur when he hosted the Taxi Driver at the flagstaff House to celebrate and commend him for endangering his life in the interest of the Nation.
According to the Vice President, the decision by President John Mahama to reward the Taxi Driver with a house is to send a signal to the Ghanaian Citizenry that, the Nation will acknowledge and reward people who put their lives in danger to protect the Country.
The Taxi Driver became a hero when he used his car to hit two suspected armed robbers, Abaliku Sannie, 35 and Oko Quaicoo, 30, who were alleged to have shot a sales lady at Koala Shopping Mall and robbed her of an unspecified amount of money belonging to the Company.
The Taxi Driver who witnessed the robbery, chased the robbers, who were on a motor bicycle even when the they were shooting at him, and knock them down before they were arrested by the Police.
There have been outpouring of commendations by some eminent personalities for the Taxi Driver including the former President, Jerry John Rawlings who has described his action as heroic and patriotic and called on the Nation to confer on him a National award.
The Police Service has also announced a monetary reward for the Driver, whilst the Managing Director of the Koala Shopping Mall said, the Company would buy him a new car to replace his mangled taxi cab.
Meanwhile the police have arrested the Supervisor at the Koala shopping Mall for masterminding the abortive robbery.
