Former Barcelona forward Samuel Eto’o has been named the interim player-manager at his Turkish club Antalyaspor.
The 34-year-old Cameroonian takes over from Yusuf Simek whose contract was terminated on 7 December after a mutual agreement with the club owners.
He will be assisted by the club’s technical director, Mehmet Ugurlu, and will lead Antalyaspor in their next three games, after which a decision on whether or not to hand him a permanent managerial role would be taken after the winter break.
The former Chelsea player and four-time African Footballer of the Year joined the club on a three-year contract in June.
Eto’o has played for some of the greatest clubs in Europe and has won the UEFA Champions League back-to-back with Barcelona and Inter Milan.
He is the second player ever to score in two Champions League finals and the fourth player to have won the trophy two years in a row with different teams.
