His Excellency George Kumi, the aspirant, who lost in the recently held New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary primaries at the Sunyani East constituency has petitioned the party’s headquarters to order a forensic audit and recount of the ballot.

Ambassador Kumi lost the slot by a one vote margin to the incumbent member of parliament Kwasi Ameyaw-Cheremeh who polled 388 votes.

The former ambassador to Nigeria and Libya, in a petition dated Sunday, June 14 to the NPP General Secretary, copied to the Regional Police Commander and the Sunyani East Constituency NPP Election Committee, demanded that the Electoral Commission (EC) conduct a recount and forensic audit of the ballots to determine the serial number a missing ballot paper and ascertain its whereabouts.

“I wish to petition your office for a recount of ballots of the New Patriotic Party parliamentary primaries for Sunyani East Constituency which took place on Saturday, June 13, 2015”.

He further demanded that the ballot box containing the disputed ballots be handed over within 24 hours for safe keeping in the custody of the Regional Police Command.

There were various allegations and counter allegations between the two party giants in the run up to the Sunyani East constituency primaries with the incumbent accusing the Mr Kumi of resorting to ‘juju’ to end his life prematurely and unseat him.

However, the elections which was held at the Pastoral Center on Saturday was fairly smooth aside the initial misunderstandings which attracted heavy police presence.
