The immediate past Municipal Chief Executive and National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for Sunyani East in the 2016 elections, Kwasi Oppong Ababio is dead.
Mr Ababio died on Saturday night after he was rushed to the Brong-Ahafo Regional Hospital in Sunyani for medical attention. Though the actual cause of his death is yet to be made public, the former MCE is said to have complained of stomach ache and dizziness whilst watching TV at his private residence in Abesim, his hometown.
Mr Ababio was appointed MCE during the reign of the late President John Mills. He held the position throughout President Mahama’s regime until a few days ago when the current President Nana Akufo-Addo asked all heads of assemblies to hand over to their Coordinating Directors.
He contested for parliament on the ticket of the NDC and lost to the the NPP candidate and current Majority Chief Whip, Kwasi Ameyaw-Cheremeh who won 38,009 of the valid votes cast. He polled 14,549 votes and placed third.
Prior to joining mainstream politics, Mr Oppong Ababio was a long time Agriculturist, working with MoFA in Sunyani.
