The Sunyani Traditional Council has registered serious exception to the derogatory remarks made against its Paramount Chief, Nana Bosoma Asor Nkrawiri by the Brong-Ahafo Regional Executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in their recent press conference led by the Chairman, Kwaku Asomah-Kyeremeh.
Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, the Krontihene of the Sunyani Traditional Council, Nana Bofotia Boamponsem described accusations that the chief has dabbled in partisan politics following his commendation of President John Mahama as unfounded and also a calculated attempt to drag his integrity in the mud.
According to the Krontihene, the Traditional Council also takes serious exception to comments made by the Regional Chairman questioning the jurisdiction and powers of the Omanhene of Sunyani.
The Traditional Council has therefore issued a directive, calling on the Council of Elders of the NPP to as a matter of urgency compel the Regional Executives to render an unqualified apology to the Omanhene and the Traditional Council for the scathing attacks on them, Nana Bofotia announced.
He also disclosed to the media that, the Council has also summoned the Regional Executives and the Council of Elders of the NPP to the palace for the peaceful resolution of the matter .
According to Nana Bofotia, this year alone Nana and his elders had received three political parties at the palace which included the Convention People’s Party (CPP), New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), adding that, in all the visits, the chief gave the parties a warm reception and encouraged them to work hard to win the upcoming general elections without demonstrating any bias against the other or preference for the other.
The Krontihene reminded the NPP Regional Executives that, when Nana Akufo Addo paid a courtesy call on the Omanhene during his recent ‘Rise and Build Tour’, he pledged his support for the party and encouraged them to work hard to retain the Sunyani East Seat and win the presidency come December 2016 which was received with laud applause by Nana and his entourage.
He therefore asked whether by the chief’s endorsement of Nana Akufo Addo’s future presidency, he was doing politics at that time, and whether Nana’s pronouncement was in contravention of the 1992 constitution?
Nana Bofotia indicated that, the Sunyani Traditional Council respect dissenting views and welcomes constructive criticism but would not countenance attempts by any group to denigrate the image of the chief and elders of the traditional council.
He therefore urged political parties to be circumspect and avoid political mudslinging which according to him has no place in our modern political dispensation.
