A medical officer at the Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Hospital, Dr Philip Fobi Karikari, has commended the Sunyani West District Assembly for supporting the Hospital with five beds (5) and ten (10) matresses.
The donation was in response to an appeal made to the general public on ‘DAY BREAK’ — the Morning Show of Sunyani-based Radio BAR.
Following the doctors’ three-week strike which ended last week, the SDA Hospital was overwhelmed by a huge number of patients who had thronged the facility to seek medical care, putting untold pressure on the hospital staff and the facility.
Speaking in an interview, Dr Karikari noted that, the credit should go to Radio B.A.R.
According to him, it was through the station’s initiative that got the Sunyani West Assembly to come to the hospital’s aid.
Dr Karikari further called on the government, Organisations, and all those in position of influence to come to the aid of the hospital by donating beds and matresses to help accommodate more patients.
He revealed that, the hospital rarely records deaths, but during the doctors’ strike, the facility experienced an increase in the number of deaths.
The Medial Officer touched on some of the challenges bedevelling the hospital which include shortage of drugs, inadequate staff due to the increased attendance and therefore called on government for support.
