Some loyalist of the three Montie FM panelists who thronged the premises of the Supreme Court in their numbers reportedly manhandled some reporters covering the contempt proceeding.
The attack on the journalists occurred when they attempted to take pictures of the contemnors when they were leaving the precincts of the Court after the case was adjourned by the apex Court.
According to reports, the supporters confiscated their recorders and ipads when the reporters attempted to take pictures and videos and threatened to smash them on the ground in the full glare of the Police who had been outnumbered by the supporters.
The premises of the Apex Court was filled to capacity by hundreds of supporters and sympathisers of the alleged contemnors who had come to court to witness the proceedings and to also show their unflinching solidarity to the three.
Some of the supporters were heard chanting ‘Mugabe’ ‘Mugabe’ ‘Mugabe’ whom they described as a hero.
However, one of the lawyers of the defendants, Mr. Tamakloe has condemned the attack on the journalists by the supporters and rendered an unqualified apology to the victims on behalf of his clients.
He cautioned them to desist from that dastardly conduct in the subsequent hearing of the case adding that, any person found to have attacked any journalist would be severely dealt with.
However, sitting is expected to resume on Monday July 18 for the alleged contemnors to appear before the Court to purge themselves of the contempt charges hanged around their necks.
