The Sunyani Municipal Director of the Electoral Commission, Mr Yaw Opoku has urged people who wanted to contest in the district assembly and unit committee elections in march next year to pick up nomination forms and file at the Sunyani municipal office of the E.C before the stipulated deadline.
In an interview with BA News, Mr Opoku said, the forms for both the district assembly and the unit committee elections are available and are free of charge for aspirants who wish to contest in the local government elections.
He revealed that, the stipulated dates for the submission of nomination forms for the district assembly election are on the 20th and 21st of this month, whilst that of the unit committee are on the 22nd and 23rd of this month.
The E.C Director advised those who have picked the forms to take note of the submission dates for the respective positions and act accordingly to avoid being disqualified from contesting in the upcoming local government elections.
Mr Opoku disclosed that as at Tuesday 9th December this month,about 80 people have picked up their nomination forms to contest in the elections,adding that,we are expecting the number to increase by the close of the deadline for submission.
He appealed to Ghanaians to show keen interest in the local elections to bring their knowledge and experience on board in order to strengthen the decentralization concept.
