The police in the Ashanti Region have nabbed two suspected armed robbers for allegedly mounting a road block and robbing passengers of their valuables at Duase, off the Antoa road.
According to Deputy Regional Police Commander, DSP Ampofo Duku, on the 3rd November 2015 at about 10:30pm, the suspects, Mohammed Abubakari 32 and Abdul Fatau Issah 24 from Aboabo Akrom hired a Daewoo taxi with registration number, AS 5151/13 at Airport Roundabout belonging to one Agyenim, the driver to Duase.
On reaching Royal Street Hotel at Duase New Site, Mohammed who was sitting at the front, pulled a locally made pistol and robbed him of his phone and an unspecified amount of money after which they made him lie on the floor in a nearby bush.
According to him, they snatched his taxi and used it to mount a road block and went on a robbery spree on that road.
ASP Duku explained that, after mounting the road block, the robbers stopped an Urvan bus and a Nissan Primera, and ordered all the passengers to get down and made away with 11 phones and an undisclosed amount of money.
Two of the victims, Ibrahim Smaila and Sani Mohammed at about 11:30 pm made a complain to the Airport police station and told the police that, they have identified one of the robbers.
According to ASP Duku, the next day, a police team were dispatched to Aboabo Akrom where Mohammed Abubakari and Abdul Fatau Issah were picked up by the police.
Mohammed was said to have confessed to the police of involving in series of robbery cases in the Ashanti Regional Capital and its surrounding towns.
