The most hardworking Ghanaian musicians and producers would be hoping to pick up awards in various categories at the prestigious Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMAs) which comes off today May 7, at its usual venue the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC).
The awards which has become the nation’s biggest entertainment event has not escaped the usual controversies, most of which has had to do with disagreements over categorization, nomination of unqualified songs and artistes as well as the disqualification of Shatta Wale, who most pundits tipped to win the topmost artiste of the year award.
In the run up to the main event, many industry players have complained of lack of adequate publicity which has kept the euphoria below what is usually the case with the VGMAs, but event organizers, Charterhouse Ltd, have maintained they are happy with the momentum gathered so far and are hoping for a great night.
This year’s VGMAs will be hosted by DJ Black, Naa Ashorkor Mensah Doku and Chris Attoh who will be returning to the show after hosting it three times previously. Bella Mundi and Elias Chebib will be on the sideline conducting the red carpet interviews.
Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, WizKid, EL, R2bees, Efya, Kofi Kinaata, Joe Mettle, Adomaa and others would be performing at the live event which would be broadcast live on GHONE TV, Joy Prime, Metro TV, UTV, Viasat One, ETV Ghana, GTV, MTV Base, Africa Magic World, Trace TV and Soundcity.
