But when a thief who tried to play it smart by stealing from the offertory bowl was caught red handed, some of the congregants baffled by the sacrilegious act gave him some slaps to teach him a bitter lesson.
The thief had attended a service in one of the branches of the Methodist Church in the Central region but decided to pick from the bowl during offertory.
Following the queue in the usual manner, the young man dipped his hand into the bowl but instead of giving to God decided to steal from God.
Unknown to him, a lawyer who happened to be behind him saw the whole incident had alerted the church authorities and he was apprehended.
A thorough search on him revealed the GH₵ 5 (five cedis) notes he had stolen carefully concealed but he interestingly revealed that he was there on a visit.
Upon further interrogations, he added that he wanted to go to Cape Coast but he was broke so he decided to pass by the church to steal some money for transportation.
But a look at the church’s CCTV shows it was not the first time he had stolen from the church.
